June 2023 Trend Recap

I am officially back from my travels…

Last month, my travels took me to Italy to attend the Salone del Mobile furniture show! I was immersed in everything design… from showrooms and galleries, to amazing retail shops! After I left Milan, I ventured to the south of France where I spent most of my time in St. Tropez, exploring many small seaside towns where I was inspired by the earthen tones of the architecture contrasted with the bright blue of the sea.

I have been compiling my findings, and after some consideration, I have laid out the top 6 trends that I saw while on the trip below.

“Artitude” - A name I created for this creative trend featuring fun and functional furniture. Each piece is a creative conversation, showcasing different art-inspired techniques and finishes from various design shows, galleries, and retail stores in Milan and St. Tropez.

These earthen tones translate beautifully into many varied product finishes… glassware, ceramic, and fabric..naming just a few. Often accented with sea green and cream this palette is refreshing, earth-inspired, and soothing. Loving the transparency of these colors when applied to glassware, as these tones take on a more watercolor and transparent vibe.

“Paired Well” is all about looking at collections and pairs of products that play well together in creative spaces throughout your home. Shopping design shows, retail stores, and galleries, I witnessed the continuation of paired well products, especially in side tables, ottomans, and hidden seating solutions that are space savers and trend right! Finishes included marble, cork, and cozy fabrics!

This mood board truly sums up my last few weeks of travel through local imagery that defines a color story that is natural in spirit and pure in style! Nothing better than looking at our beautiful surroundings and incorporating the beauty of the outdoors into our everyday lives.

Probably the most innovative product category that I found on this design trip was lighting. Organic and asymmetrical shapes were showstoppers in many scales and substrates. The more organic and creative the lighting was, the more attention they were given at the design shows and retail shops!

My lighting mantra this season stems (no pun intended) from the Monstera Leaf which was truly the iconic motif in lighting found at Salone del Mobile! This creative shape took on so many unique personalities at the show from sconces to overhead lighting. These organic interpretations were seen in many substrates including metal, ceramic, and glass.

Bonus: I always enjoy finding new artisan product applications that are sophisticated and updated. I found these beautiful products at Armel Soyer in St Tropez. Love seeing so many fun ways to incorporate metal, fabric, wood, and stone!
