The Outdoor Boom
I have been feeling inspired by gardens this summer!
After months of lockdown, I have noticed a boom in mindfulness, meditation, and conscious time spent in nature. With many regular indoor hotspots ruled out, people have turned to nature as a way of escaping to exercise their freedoms.
“Horticool” is a movement making the outdoors “cool” again. At long last, each generation is starting to realize the health benefits of being in nature.
Meditation gardens, mini zen gardens, outdoor water features, and hammocks are becoming staples in rural and urban outdoor spaces alike. Even as the country opens up, many are opting to stay home this summer and enjoy backyard amenities like hot tubs, saunas, and outdoor loungers.
After spending some time in the garden and snapping some pictures of my favorite blooms, my team went through the Design Works International archive and found some amazing original prints inspired by nature.
I then asked some of the designers at Design Works International to send me their favorite flower and why it resonates with them.

“I love Hydrangea's bright blooms of interlocking clustered buds. From afar they're colorful puffballs, but when you look closely, there are so many little individual flowers. Over the last few weeks this plant has gone from a bright purple to this softer pink color. There's so much beauty in these summertime flowers plus the pollinating bees love them!”

“I love pink Chrysanthemums! This one caught my attention for its rich bright pink color and large size. I really love how many layers it has and how each one has its own slightly different shade.”

“My favorite August flower is the Black Eyed Susan. They always add so much color in unexpected places and the blooms are long lasting. They make the walking paths more inviting and lovely.”

“I love purple Lace Hydrangeas! This year our purple lace hydrangeas are perfect in color, shape and size! Love that my favorite color is this vibrant in nature.”
